First Night Finals

Tina 29 Jun 2008 | : Mom and Dad

Thrilling is how I would describe our first night at Olympic Trials Finals. The night starts off with Michael Phelps winning the 400 IM with a new world record! It was a thrill watching him out touch Ryan Lochte. Arizona’s Whitney Myers had a good enough semifinals to return tomorrow in finals in the 100 butterfly. Klete Keller went out a little too fast in the Mens 400 freestyle leaving 3 swimmers to battle it out to have Larsen Jensen be the victor with a new American record. Katie Hoff seemed surprised to see that her 400 IM win set a new world record. And Brendan Hensen comes out of the Mens 100 breaststroke semifinals as the top seed for finals tomorrow evening.

We are looking forward to seeing how prelims go tomorrow in the Womens 100 back, Mens 200 free, Womens 100 breast, Mens 100 back, and Womens 400 free. And we are sure to see more records broken in finals. USA is looking very strong with an amazing start for the first day. And tomorrow evening Lara arrives from Tucson to prepare for her first race Thursday morning in the 100 freestyle preliminaries. Go Arizona! Go Lara Jackson!

Day 1 Preliminaries

Tina 29 Jun 2008 | : Mom and Dad

We made our way to the Quest Center this morning for Day 1 of Preliminaries. A side of the building showed some damage from the severe winds that hit the building Friday evening and had knocked out power to residents near by. But all was in place for the first day of the Olympic Trials. We attended a Parent “Training Class” in the Quest Convention Center. Matt Farrell from USA Swimming, Lindsay Mintenko and Candi MacConaugha spoke about what to expect as a parent of a competitor at these Trials. It was a nice little intro to the next 8 days. Watched some exciting swimming and rooted for Lara’s teammates from Arizona. Let you know how it goes at Finals. Jack Brown will be in the 400 IM final, Whitney Myers made the 100 butterfly semifinals and Bart Steninger and Joshua Arreguin will swim in the 100 breast semifinals. Got some comments from people who noticed our U of Arizona shirts. Some die hards congratulated the team on winning NCAA’s this year. Go Cats!

Headed for Omaha

Tina 26 Jun 2008 | : Mom and Dad

We are all excited about starting our drive to Omaha tonight.  The Trials start on Sunday, June 29 and finish on Sunday, July 6.  You can check out the usaswimming.org web page for TV schedules.  I will keep you posted on our experiences at Lara’s first Olympic Trials.  Please give us your comments on anything about this site or about Olympic Trials.  Our web master is hard at work building this site.  There are already pictures posted and he is working on posting results and video from 2008 Women’s NCAA’s and the Swimvitational held in Omaha about 3 weeks ago.  Enjoy!
