JH took the 50 meter free in 24.90 and Lara came in second with 24.93. I am a little relieved that’s it’s over, but a little sad that Lara did not come out on top. I know that she is so much faster than she performed at the US Open. But it’s time to put it behind us now. Lara’s okay. Carly was there and she saw Lara shake JH’s hand right after the race. Lara has always demonstrated good sportsmanship and I am so proud of that.
In Lara’s words via text message: “I’m ready to wash my hands of this season, take a step back, and then start fresh with a vengence.” That a girl!

Looked up the results of the women’s 50 meter free pre-lims. JH swam a 25.05 and is seeded first going into tonight’s finals. Lara is seeded second with a 25.24. Now it’s nail biting time. JH has already set two world records this meet in the 50 breast and the 100 breast. But I know our girl. She’s ready and focused and she will swim faster in a head to head race. Lara and JH were in separate heats this am, by the way. God, give us all strength! And go Lara!

The psych sheet is available on usaswimming.org for the US Open. I was surprised not to find Lara’s name under the 100 meter free. After a few text message exchanges, I found out from Lara that she’s skipping the 100 meter free on Wednesday, but will swim the 100 back on Friday. Lara has the top time starting at the 100 yards (times) list. Then of course she is fine tuning her 50 meter free for Saturday. Was surprised to see that a swimmer who has been banned for one year is back, and her time of 24.48 is still viable for top seed! J.H. was “dirty” when she swam this time at Olympic Trials one year ago. I don’t understand why that time stands. So Lara is second seed with a 24.50. But not for long. Get ready to be blown away! And keep Lara in your thoughts and prayers for the perfect swim that we all know she is capable of. Ya! Go Lara!
